Mary Darlene Oleson

November 14, 1954 – August 10, 2026

Mary Darlene Oleson, known to everyone who loved her simply as Darlene, passed away peacefully on August 10, 2026, in Royse City, Texas, at the age of 71.

Born on November 14, 1954, in Akron, Ohio, Darlene lived a life shaped by the simple things she held close, like a cold glass of sweet tea, cheering on the Texas Rangers and the Dallas Cowboys, settling in to watch her favorite soap operas, Law & Order, and HGTV, and finding comfort in the familiar routines.

Above all else, Darlene loved her family. She was a proud mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. There was something that softened in her whenever a baby was nearby, and those who knew her best saw that love clearly.

Darlene had a dry sense of humor that often caught people by surprise. She was independent, determined, and very stubborn. At her core, Darlene had a compassionate heart and deep feelings, even if she didn’t always have the words to express them.

Her family will always smile remembering Darlene’s legendary purse, compared to Mary Poppins’ bag because no matter what someone needed, she somehow had it in there. It was one of those small but unmistakable parts of who she was.

She is survived by her daughters, Stacy Mussato (Wes), and Andria Smith (Jeremy); her son, Jason Havens (Samantha); her beloved grandchildren, Natalie Davy, Erin Davy, Alyssa Davy, Ryan Davy, Brooklin Smith, Ashtin Smith, Callaway Smith, and Kyle Havens; four great-grandchildren; her father, Jesse Newsom; sister, Denise Love; and brother, Danny Lantz (Lali).

She was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Elizabeth Newsom.

In accordance with Darlene’s wishes, no funeral or memorial services will be held. Her family asks that those who knew and loved her honor her memory in their own way and hold close the moments they shared with her.

May you finally rest easy and everything you’ve been carrying be lifted from you now. You were loved.
