Gregory Kyle Nelson, 64, of Poetry TX, greatly loved father, brother, husband and friend passed away at his home on June 12th, 2026.
Greg was born on October 6th, 1961 in Artesia, New Mexico to David and Janelle Nelson. He graduated from Brownwood High School in 1980 and later earned a business management degree from San Angelo State University. Greg worked for Four Square Health Care for 30 years as Administrator and later Assistant Director of Operations. He was beloved by all he worked with. Greg was known for his boundless generosity, joyous laugh, and love for bringing people together. His adventurous spirit and love of nature kept him always searching for his next escapade whether backpacking through Europe, halibut fishing in Alaska, hiking the grand canyon, elk hunting in Colorado, getting lost off-roading with his jeep club, camping with his family, or fishing in the boat he built. He played football in high school and always maintained a love for the game. In 2015 he fulfilled his lifelong dream of owning land and bought Shalom Ranch which he filled with chickens, sheep, longhorns, dogs, cats and the memories of the many people he welcomed and called friends. Greg was an expert cook who devoted himself to perfecting recipes to share with anyone and everyone. He delighted in meticulously preparing feasts of fried fish, jalapeno poppers, and his much acclaimed smoked meats. Every Christmas he overtook the kitchen to make hundreds of jars of jalapeno jelly that he generously gifted to family, friends, and coworkers.
He is survived by his wife Adrienne Nelson; children Jonathan Nelson, Kathleen Nelson, Elizabeth Nelson and spouse Tucker Jaggers, Joseph Nelson and Garrett Hawthorne; brother, Kendal Nelson and spouse Rachael Nelson; niece Payton Nelson, and the many who loved him.
A celebration of life will be held Sunday June 28th, 2pm at Sweetwater Grill in Royse City. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Jude.
