Barbara Ann Thompson, Age:87

Barbara Ann Thompson born June 22, 1938 in Wewoka, Oklahoma to Raymond and Ruby Mitchell passed away April 19, 2026 at the age of 87 after her battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

 

She was predeceased by Kenneth “Ken” Wayne Thompson her loving husband of over 63 years.

 

Ken and Barbie were the consummate southern couple.  Ken having played Football at OU and Barbara the southern beauty queen with a keen wit and artistic flair for life.

 

Barbara is survived by her daughter Kelton “Kelly” and husband Thad Peterson, her son Toban and wife Colleen Thompson, and her Grandchildren, Mitchell Lyons, Andrew Peterson, Grace Peterson, Cody Thompson and Riley Thompson.  Barbara is also survived by her Step Grandchildren she so lovingly treated as her own: Austin Swindoll-Thompson, Jonathan Thompson and Ashley Gressman along with her husband Mickey Gressman and their 2 children Eleanor and Amelia.

 

At an early age Barbara exhibited uncanny gift for piano.  Performing for the Oklahoma Statehouse at the tender age of 8.  In later years, her artistic proficiency was expressed in painting, flower arrangement, doll design, fashion and makeup artistry.

 

Barbara attended High School and was a member of the first graduation class of 1956 from Northwest Classen High School in Oklahoma City, OK.  Other members of the graduation class included artist Edward Ruscha and Grammy winning guitarist Mason Williams.

 

In the early years of her marriage, Barbara was a talented “Domestic Engineer”.  Her culinary skills were legendary with both family and friends.  Her joy was cooking recipes from all over the world long before this practice was popular.

 

In later years, Barbara worked in the Fashion Industry before her employment with GTE in the Directories Division.  After her retirement she worked with Clinique Cosmetics.

 

Barbara was a member of First McKinney Baptist Church for 15 years before becoming a member of Stonebriar Community Church for the last 17 years of her life.

 

In both churches, she was active in the choir and Sunday School.  At Stonebriar Community Church she was also active with the Special Needs Painting Class with many of those paintings still gracing the walls her students’ families.

 

A memorial service will be held for Barbara Thompson on Friday June 5, 2026 at 11:00 am at Stonebriar Community Church located at: 4801 Legendary Dr, Frisco, TX 75034.

 

A lunch reception will immediately follow the memorial service.

 

In leu of flowers the family wishes any donations be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America.
