Doug was born May 31, 1948, in Dallas, Texas, to Jack and Elease Presley. He is survived by his wife Diane; his children Matthew Presley, wife Gabrielle, son Martin, and Karen Garner, husband Adrain, daughter Melanie; siblings, Phyllis (Allison) McCauley, husband Tommy, and Tim Presley, wife Sue, and sons Alexander, Nicholas and Christopher; cousins, Karen Ann Bailey, Dinah Lou Stults, and Eddie Guest.
He graduated from Longview High School in 1966 and Texas A&M in 1970 and 1977. He was employed for 35 years by the Texas Agricultural Extension Service as a County Agricultural Agent and Computer Specialist.
Doug’s love for motorcycles began while he was in high school when he bought a used Vespa, but his passion began in 1995 when he bought his first Harley “Ultra.” He rode his motorcycle in 49 states. As a Life Member of Panther Creek HOG he served as Assistant Director and Safety Officer.
He was dedicated to long-distance bicycle riding beginning in 1977. Over the years he collected more commemorative patches than he had vests or jackets to sew them on. He was riding 16 miles 3 times a week until the last year of his life.
Doug loved all living creatures and especially dogs and birds. He loved to tell stories about Bandit, Scamp, Atticus, Termite, and Simeon.
He was a highly principled man whose deepest desire was to serve God by helping other people. His children often say that their dad never saw a car broken down on the side of the road that he didn’t stop to fix it. He had a special fondness for the congregations of Good Shepherd United Methodist Church in Lucas and First United Methodist Church of Plano. The longing of his heart was to hear, “Well done thou good and faithful servant.”
