Ronnie Dee Smith, age 59, passed away on January 11, 2026.
Ronnie was born on June 10, 1966, in Iowa City, Iowa, to Tommy Jerald Smith and Patricia “Pat” Ann Miller-Smith. He spent much of his youth in Grinnell, Iowa, where he was well known for his impressive boxing skills. In his teenage years, he moved to Texas—a place he
would call home for the remainder of his life.
Ronnie spent the majority of his adult years living in Brenham and Somerville, Texas. A hard worker through and through, he dedicated over 30 years of service to Valmont Industries, where he was respected and admired for his strong work ethic, leadership, and loyalty.
Later in life, he moved to McKinney, Texas, to be closer to his daughter and grandchildren, who truly meant the world to him.
Ronnie enjoyed attending car races and concerts, or simply cracking open a cold beer while tending to the pit and watching a good football game. Above all else, he treasured time spent with his grandsons, and you could often find him proudly cheering them on at
their games.
Those who knew Ronnie loved him and accepted his hard-headed nature. He never missed an opportunity for a sarcastic or clever remark, often bringing laughter to those around him. Beneath that quick wit was a man with the best intentions and a genuinely kind heart.
Ronnie is survived by his daughter, Brittany, and her husband, Jonathan Haro, of Plano, Texas; his three cherished grandsons, Keegan, Brodie, and Landon Haro; his twin brother, Lonnie Smith, and his wife, Rhonda; and his brother, Thomas Smith.
Family and friends are encouraged to celebrate Ronnie’s life by raising a glass, telling a story, and sharing the moments they shared with him so that his memory lives on
