Sterling Dale Marksberry, age 76, of Trenton, Texas, passed away on December 20, 2025.
Sterling was born in Borger, Texas, to Sterling AC Marksberry and Lucy Mottie Long. He proudly served his country as a highly decorated United States Army veteran, serving as a paratrooper with Company C, 3rd Battalion, 187th Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division — the Screaming Eagles. Sterling courageously served two tours in Vietnam and was awarded three Purple Hearts for his bravery and heroism in combat.
Above all else, Sterling was known for his deep love for the Lord. His faith guided his life, and he spoke often with joy and anticipation about Heaven. He was confident in God’s promise and was excited to be reunited with his family and loved ones who went before him.
Sterling is survived by his five children: Sterling Dale Marksberry II, Steven Marksberry, Misty Marksberry Meredith, Melissa Marksberry, and Justin Marksberry; 18 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by his siblings: Joe Marksberry, Lana Arrington, and Gene Russell; step-sisters Sheila Marksberry, Kathy Anderson, Tammy Hawes, and Susan Manning; and by his Aunt Dolly Sharp and his loving stepmother Dorothy Berry.
Sterling was preceded in death by his father, Sterling AC Marksberry; his mother, Lucy Mottie Long; and his sister, Lita Kay Marksberry.
Sterling Dale Marksberry will be remembered as a faithful servant of God, a devoted father and grandfather, and an American hero whose sacrifice and legacy will never be forgotten.
