Sandra Ann (Sandy) Anthony, Age:87

Sandra Ann (Lewis) Anthony passed away peacefully under hospice care on Friday, December 12, 2025, in McKinney, Texas.

She was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa to Harry and Rose Lewis, the oldest of four children to three younger brothers. She attended Wilson High School and made lifelong friends with a special group of women, with whom she would enjoy a supportive and loving relationship, including frequent visits and planned trips throughout their lives. Her love of physical activity was also developed at Wilson, where she was a cheerleader and member of the Girls Athletic Association, and her faculty leaders influenced her decision to attend the University of Northern Iowa to major in Physical Education.

She met Marc W. Anthony at UNI and they married in 1960, eventually moving right after graduation for Marc’s military post to Fort Benning, Georgia for the next four years before returning to Cedar Falls, Iowa. They moved with their children, Marc II, Lynn and Sue Ann to Scottsbluff, Nebraska in 1971 and were very active in their community. Having instilled a great love of sport and competition into her children, she attended literally hundreds of football, baseball, and basketball games, track and cross-country meets, band and choir concerts, and dance and piano recitals. She spent considerable time on boats and mountains, water- and snow-skiing with her family, as well as occasionally playing golf and tennis. She boosted the Scottsbluff Public School system as a charity and fundraising organizer, PTA leader, served as a PEO President, and was a Regional Hospital auxiliary member. Her own interests included several bridge clubs, gardening, quilting, sewing and other needlework, antiquing, and a tremendous love of country, so patriotic destinations, holidays and events held a special place in her heart.

Her children’s greatest supporter, she’s sewn dozens of Halloween and dance costumes, and elaborate Christmas stockings – apparently, one can never use too many sequins! She baked thousands of cookies and cupcakes for Scouting and school events, and drove thousands of miles for travelling sports, concerts, doctor’s appointments and family summer vacations. When she turned 80 and was asked what her favorite “era” of life has been, she said the time in Nebraska, raising her children, supporting her community, and her Scottsbluff friendships.

After her children had left home, Sandy and Marc moved to Louisiana for several years before retiring to Florida where they were closer to the Anthony side of the family, and the warmer weather was most agreeable to Sandy’s health. She kept close ties with her own family in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and loved returning to visit. Marc passed in 2009, and Sandy moved to Texas in 2012 to be with her daughter, moving finally to Hidden Springs Assisted Living in 2024.

Sandra is preceded in death by her parents Harry and Rose (Karlik) Lewis, her husband Marc Anthony, and her brothers, Richard and Arlene (Bedell) Lewis, Dennis Lewis, and brother-in-law Joe Bill Anthony. She is survived by her brother Don and Jean (Elwick) Lewis, children Marc Anthony II, Lynn and Teresa (Modlin) Anthony, Sue Ann (Anthony) and Ed Ballas, along with her brother Don and Jean (Elwick) Lewis, Tad and Betty (Bowman) Anthony, Annette Anthony, and Phil and Arlene {Anderson) Anthony. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, Rodney Rasgorshek, Kacey (Rasgorshek) and Craig Hoppes, Zane Lewis Anthony, Kayleigh and Bryce Ballas, along with great grandchildren Tayden Rasgorshek, and Jaxton and Keland Hoppes. She also had special relationships with many nieces and nephews, and their children, on both sides of her family.

At Sandy’s request there will be no viewing. Her ashes will be co-mingled with her husband’s and returned to Scottsbluff, Nebraska by their children. Memorial donations may be sent to the Scottsbluff Zoo where she enjoyed many happy hours with friends and family.
