Eleanor May "Nora" Conrad, Age:84

Eleanor May Conrad, “Nora,” passed away peacefully at home in Arlington, TX on July 26, 2025, surrounded by her family. She was 84 years old.

She was preceded in death by her three brothers, two sisters and grandson, Joshua Hindman. She is survived by her brother, Paul Groves (Emilie Groves) of Georgetown, TX.

Born in Decatur, Illinois, on July 20, 1941, she was raised in the Girls Welfare Home on a foundation of Midwestern values she carried throughout her life. She moved to Dallas, Texas in 1960 with her older sister to join other family who had already relocated to Texas.

She and her first husband, Gerald Cruthis, raised three daughters: Tina Hindman (Randall Hindman) of Van Alstyne, TX, Kimberly Waggoner (Brian Waggoner) of Grand Prairie, TX, and Jennifer Cruthis of Dallas, TX. She worked at Dodson-Bateman Insurance in Dallas for 30 years, writing bonds for commercial construction, where she was a cherished employee.

She met her second husband, Dale Conrad, while square dancing and they spent the next 28 years making wonderful memories together - dancing, traveling in their motor home, and passionately cheering on the Dallas Mavericks.

Nora’s all-time favorite hobby was soaking up time with her six grandkids: Kaylynn Stone (Wil Stone) of Van Alstyne, TX, Meagan Piedmont (Clint Johnson) of Denison, TX, (Chrissy Hindman) of Anna, TX, Austin Piedmont (Julia Piedmont) of Scottsdale, AZ, Jacob Hindman (Kylie Hindman) of College Station, TX and Jack Waggoner of Grand Prairie, TX - along with her seven great-grandchildren, who affectionately called her “Great”:  Malia, Maddox, and Moby Piedmont, Everlie Rios, Colson Johnson, Charles Stone and her namesake, Eleanor Hindman.

She was an enthusiastic gardener, often sharing photos of her gorgeous yard and flowers with her family on the “flower” text string. She planted the seed that now flourishes as a lasting connection between them all.

Most importantly, she was a devoted mother—a haven of warmth and comfort. She was the first person her three girls would call, with good news or bad. She always had a way of making everything better. Her funny sayings, beloved recipes, love of playing games and holiday traditions will live on through generations.

Her granddaughter, Kaylynn, described her as:
“Sunshine in human form. Lovely. A rare gem. Beautiful in every way. Quietly strong, steady. Deeply kind, incredibly gentle. Moved through life with grace. Classy with just the right amount of sass.”

In an email to her family, relishing a sunny day in mid-February, she signed off with:
“Oh, let the sunshine in. Face it with a grin. Smilers never lose and frowners never win.”

She is beloved and will forever be deeply missed.

A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held on August 30, 2025, at the Arlington Woman’s Center from 1:00–4:00 p.m.1515 W Abram St, Arlington, TX 76013

I wish all 3 girls, Tina, Kim and Jenny sincere condolences. I have many fond memories of your mom from sleepovers. Her famous Dill Dip recipe. And many times Kim and I were trying to find things to do. One day we wanted to have a Lemonade Stand. We were very young. But one of us thought of putting up a sign that said Help Jerry’s kids. Because both of our dad’s name was Jerry. It just happened to also be the same saying they used for the used to identify the children with muscular dystrophy who were featured in the telethon, hosted by Jerry Lewis, often presented as poster children. We got in big trouble for that. She was a great mother, grandmother, and friend. I will keep your family in my prayers.

Nora will always be cherished in our lives. If not for her we would never have met. Nora brought Linda to square dancing and I, John could never be more grateful. We have also enjoyed 28 years of happiness because of her. Thank you Nora and thank you Dale for being you.
