Bruce Timothy Miers, Age:90

Bruce Timothy Miers, 90, of Las Cruces, NM, peacefully passed into the glory of Jesus Christ on February 17, 2025, surrounded by loved ones.

Bruce Miers was born on November 9, 1934, in Handley, TX, to Ernest and Marie Miers. He grew up in Fort Worth and then attended UT Austin, where he earned his degree in Meteorology. His time in college sparked his lifelong love and support for the UT Longhorns. He began his professional career with the Weather Bureau in Waco, TX, and later transferred to El Paso, TX.  His career then advanced to the US Army Atmospheric Science Laboratory at White Sands Missile Range (ASL).  While at ASL, he authored and co-authored several peer reviewed articles that appeared in professional journals.  After retiring from ASL, he spent several years transporting students for the Las Cruces Public Schools as a bus driver. 

Bruce was a deacon at First Baptist Church, Las Cruces, NM.  He was also involved with the Gideons International and Good News Jail and Prison Ministry For over 10 years, he visited the Dona Ana County Detention Center weekly to teach Bible lessons, which he considered his contribution to spreading God’s Word.

Bruce was a loving, kind-hearted, and humble person who found joy in life’s simplest moments. His intelligence and sense of humor made him a joy to be around.  He was devoted to his family and faith, living a life that reflected Christ-like love and kindness. Bruce left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.

He is survived by his wife, Carla; daughter, Amanda Galvan (Frank); son, Mark Miers; five grandchildren, Gage Miers (Ashlee), Nico LaPuma (Molly), Alyssa LaPuma, Lexi Kemper, Savannah Wilderom; and one great grandchild, Lydia Wilderom; He was preceded in death by his parents, Marie and Ernest Miers, and his brothers, Ernest and Ben Miers.
