Caritina Mendez of Quinlan, Texas went to be with our Lord on Tuesday, January 7th, 2025, surrounded by her husband and family. Caritina was born in Dolores Hidalgo, Guanajuato, Mexico on October 5th, 1956, to Flora Bocanegra. She was the eldest of 8 children and made the tough decision to leave her family in Mexico to move to Texas for better opportunities at the age of 22 years old. Caritina lived in Nacogdoches, TX from 1978 to 2000, moving to Dallas in 2000 with her daughters, husband and son.
She was affectionately known as “Tita” or “Tu abuela” to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, her passion was cooking, baking and making lots of goodies during the holidays each year. She very much enjoyed family gatherings and cooking for Christmas and Thanksgiving. You could always expect a homemade birthday cake for your birthday. Her favorite activities were also dancing at family gatherings, playing loteria, going to the casino, and on the weekends going to garage sales. Her favorite color was yellow and loved yellow roses.
She is survived by her mother, Flora Bocanegra (Nacogdoches, TX), her husband of 48 years Serafin Mendez (Quinlan, TX), son Marco Mendez (Bella) of Garland, TX, daughters Nancy Uribe (Eduardo) of Quinlan, TX and Miriam Jimenez (Tony) of Plano, TX.; grandchildren Karina (George) Aguirre, Minya Jimenez, TJ Jimenez, Aiden Jimenez, Janessa Mendez, Jaylyn Mendez, Laylani Mendez, Eduardo Jared Uribe; great-grandchildren Evalynn, Jacob, and Aaron Aguirre, her baby brothers Jorge Garcia, Armando Bocanegra, Rogelio Bocanegra, Luis Bocanegra, Sergio Bocanegra, little sisters Soledad Bocanegra and Rosa Mendez. She is also survived by numerous nephews and nieces who she loved as if they were her own children.
Caritina will be sorely missed by her family, but we know she will be watching over them.
A mass will be held on Saturday, February 1st, 2025 at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Rockwall, TX at 11am followed by a Celebration of Life in Quinlan, TX. All family and friends are invited to join and share their great memories.
