Phil Tolbert, Age:93

Phil Doyle Tolbert was born on December 9, 1930, on the family farm in Elk City, Oklahoma and passed away in Plano, Texas on September 17, 2024.

He was the only child of William “Ross” and Callie May Evans Tolbert.

Phil began his college career playing football at Southwestern State College in Weatherford, Oklahoma but soon enlisted in the United States Air Force during the Korean War where he served in Germany, the Azores and Washington, DC where he met his future wife and love of his life, Patricia Hyde (deceased).

After they married, he finished his college education at Oklahoma State University, graduating with a degree in accounting.

Phil spent his entire career with Standard Oil of Ohio (SOHIO, later known as BP) working in Oklahoma City, Cleveland, Fort Worth, Chicago, San Francisco, Dallas, and Houston. He was inducted into the OSU Spears School of Business Hall of Fame in 1991.

Phil’s faith as a Methodist was particularly important to him and he participated in various ministries throughout his adult life and into retirement. He enjoyed studying the Bible and received weekly email reflections from his pastor.

Phil is survived by his children, Dianne (Art) Smyth, Michael (Sheila) and Bradley; grandchildren, Corinne (Jason) Gries, Andrew Tolbert, Suzanne Razzano, Allison (Cass) Meier and Shannon Smyth; and great-grandchildren, Kaylee Gries, Damian Gries, Whitley Meier, Clara Gries, and McKenna Meier.

He was a man of integrity and honor, donating generously to local, national, and worldwide charitable organizations. His love for his Lord Jesus was evident in everything he did, and he leaves behind a legacy of compassion and service that will never be forgotten.

There will be a celebration of life service for Phil on Monday, September 30, 2024, at 10:30 AM at First Methodist Carrollton, 2201 E. Hebron Pkwy. Carrollton, Texas 75010.

Phil’s family would like to thank Cindy Palmer of First Methodist Carrollton, and Stacey Feather and Susan Ghahri of Village on the Park Plano for their attentive love and support during these past few years.

To the Tolbert family. I am thankful for knowing your Dad & Mom. They were my second mom & dad. I loved them so much and admired them both. My deepest condolences to all of you for this loss.
