Houston Gabriel Olthoff - Nov 17, 1984 to Sept 9, 2024
Houston brought joy and laughter to everyone he met. He was born on November 17, 1984 to John Olthoff and Faith Wilson-Brock. Houston joined our Heavenly Father on Monday, September 9, 2024.
He was born and raised in Fort Worth, Texas. He loved spending time outdoors, participating in church events and playing sports, particularly tennis. He graduated from South Hills High School in December of 2003 and joined the army at the age of 21. He said the army
was good for him, it taught him discipline and perseverance. He served as an 19D CalvaryScout for 9 years, serving 3 tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. He returned home to Fort Worth in 2016 and became a security guard as well as teaching the youth at Word of Faith Praise Center.
Houston had a heart of gold, was a true gentleman and upstanding man and soldier. His coworkers knew him as the jack of all trades, willing to help out with anything at a moment’s notice. His fellow soldiers knew him as a good friend, a good man, no matter the situation, and
always there with a joke or to help a friend in need. He would get to know people and was genuinely caring. He was full of life and truly lived each day to the fullest.
Houston loved being a dad. He taught his children gun safety which was very important to him, he loved making pancakes on Saturday mornings for them, playing card games like Taco Cat Goat Cheese Pizza, playing Call of Duty, and going on trips together. He loved his children every day, even when he couldn’t see them often.
He reconnected with his high school sweetheart and love of his life, Shannon Costello, in
May of this year. Even though his time with her was cut short, he loved her with the commitment
and strength that would last forever.
Houston is preceded in death by his grandparents James “Hot” and India Wilson, his momma Faith Brock, and his daughter Christine Ann-Marie.
He is survived by the love of his life Shannon Costello, his son Aiden Robert and daughter Alura Lynn of Colorado, step-son Shelby Ray, step-son Tristen, his brother Nicholas Olthoff of New Mexico, his aunt April Wilson and uncle J.E., and his step-dad Ronny Brock, along with many dear friends and church family.
There will be a celebration of life service for Houston on Saturday, September 21, 2024 at Word of Faith Praise Center in Fort Worth, TX at 10:00 AM. The service will also be live streamed on Facebook through Wofpc.tv for family and friends who cannot be in attendance. In
lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA) at https://iava.org/.
