Richard “Rick” Schulte passed away unexpectedly on July 15, 2024, at the age of 66.
Son of Harold and Judith Schulte (both deceased), he was the beloved youngest brother of
Katherine (deceased), Evelyn (Cloves), and Fred (Kathy). Uncle, cousin, friend, and teacher,
he was, as he wrote, “a St. Joe River (Indiana) boy living a Trinity River (Texas) life”. He grew
up fishing, sailing and swimming in the St. Joseph River, and after earning his Bachelor’s
degree at Indiana University, South Bend, he found his niche in life as a treasured teacher in
Dallas, TX (Travis and Polk) for gifted and talented students for over 25 years. He was
himself an exceptional student. (“My mother had me tested”.) He earned his Master’s
degree at the University of Texas Dallas. He was everyone’s go-to person for computer
questions and advice. Witty, artistic and imaginative, he enjoyed participating in
Scarborough Faire, playing guitar, and interacting with his niece and nephews. Rick kept the
family history which traced back to Scotland, England, and Germany. He also enjoyed
traveling to meet friends and extended family in Brazil and Japan. A memorial will be held at
a later date. If you wish, donations may be made to Breakthrough T1D (Formerly Juvenile
Diabetes Research Foundation JDRF) or a charity of your choice.

Mr. Schulte will forever be remembered by the our family as one of the best and most caring teachers the boys have had. Max and Tycho (Virani) both enjoyed how he used humor and curiosity to engage the kids. As the after-school robotics mom, I appreciated his willingness go above and beyond to support kids learning. He was kind and caring, and had a great sense of the humor and absurdity of life. Our condolences to his family.

Richard was the best teacher I knew at the fine Travis establishment. He taught super well and was really sarcastically funy. I personally believe that he was arguably the best Travis teacher and deserves to have a statue built after him so generations of Travis alphas remember him :)

It's hard for me to imagine a person with more passion for teaching. He was an amazingly gifted man who shared his love of art and science with all of us making us better teachers. I will always remember his wit, dry humor, and all the Friday dinners. I'll miss ya Rick!

I was one of Mr. Schulte's students some decades ago, and I will always remember how patient, funny, and kind he was with our whole class. I've been going to Renaissance Faires ever since because of him. I'm so sorry that he is gone. He will be remembered by generations of students in whom he inspired humor and scientific curiosity. May his memory be for a blessing.

He was strict and funny, the best qualities that make up a teacher. He was the one who would get the sixth graders ready for the real world. I wish my brother could of had him as a teacher.

Our condolences as you grieve the loss of Rick way too soon. He was an extraordinary, gifted and caring teacher, and taught so many young students, including our three children, how to love and enjoy science. His unique perspective, wit and sense of humor were always appreciated. Our sympathy for your loss.

Was so sad to hear about Mr. Schulte’s passing. He was one of my favorite teachers and I have many fond memories of his class. He always assigned the most fun creative projects (air schooners & trebuchets being the highlights)! He will be missed.

Condolences to Rick's family, friends, and students. Rick was a cornerstone of K. B. Polk and William B. Travis talented and gifted schools. He tirelessly worked on data entry during application periods to the schools and LOVED being a teacher. The schools became his identity and he willingly devoted his life to them and especially his students. He was a good person and I feel blessed to have had him a part of the schools.
