Joy Lynn Brown passed from this world into life eternal at her home in Plano, Texas on May 27th, 2024.

She was born in Big Spring, Texas on July 20, 1951, the first child of Alva Dudley Penny and wife Joyce Ray Jones, residents of Andrews. She lived in Andrews until her 10th year when her family moved to Buckeye, Arizona. It was there she completed elementary, high school and one year of college, playing clarinet in each school’s band, was active in her church’s Youth Choir and the International Order of Rainbow for Girls.

Entering the work force, she held a number positions including time keeper for a casino before finding her true calling as a Certified Nursing Assistant. It was her distinct pleasure to be able to help those who needed assistance and she spent most of her career in private homes making friends of those she took care of.

On May 11, 1975, she married Dale Eugene Brown at Dyess AFB in Abilene, Texas. To their union, they added two daughters, Dalene Michelle born at Dyess and Heather Elise born at David Monthan AFB in Tucson, Arizona.

Joy was outgoing, enjoying the company of her friends and family, meeting new people, a wide variety of music, making ceramics and other crafts, Canadian bacon, pineapple and mushroom pizza and episodes of NCIS. Her family can attest to her skills as an accomplished cook and her love as a mother.

She was preceded in death by Dale and their daughter Dalene, her parents and her brother James.

She leaves cherishing her memory, her daughter Jen Roden and Heather Brown, son-in-law Jaime Mendoza; 3 grandchildren, Cody Greif, Reilly Brown and Sean Lewis; siblings Ross & Janice Penny, Marilyn and Gary Pennington, as well as “Mom” her mother-in-law, Jeanette Brown.

Joy and Dale will be interred at Floyd Hill Cemetery near Linden, Texas in the Penny family section.
