Robert Rivas, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and esteemed member of the community, passed away on February 22, 2024. Born in Bronx, NY on July 20, 1935, to Rafael Rivas and Delores Ferrer, Robert's life was characterized by rich experiences and meaningful connections.
Robert's passion for baseball was evident from an early age as a stickball player on the streets of Spanish Harlem, where he honed his skills and developed a deep love for the game. Remaining a steadfast fan of the New York Yankees throughout his life, he embraced the sport with unwavering loyalty. His dedication extended beyond mere fandom, as he generously shared his knowledge and enthusiasm by coaching for Little League and Pony League, leaving an enduring impact on the young players he mentored.
In addition to his love for baseball, Robert served his country with honor as a Navy veteran during the Korean War, demonstrating bravery and commitment to duty. Furthermore, he was highly esteemed among his neighbors as the neighborhood fix-it guy, offering his expertise and assistance with projects ranging from roofing to electrical and plumbing.
Robert was a devoted husband to his beloved wife Brenda and a loving father to his children, Michael, Dawn, Eric, and Greg. Sadly, he was preceded in death by his son Michael, whose memory he cherished dearly.
Robert leaves behind a legacy of familial love and devotion that will be carried forward by his wife Brenda, daughter Dawn Turner, sons Eric Rivas and Greg Rivas, and a multitude of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His memory will be treasured by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A celebration of Robert's life will be held on March 27, 2024, at DFW National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Pkwy, Dallas, TX 75211, at 9 AM.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests considering a donation to St. Jude's Children’s Research Hospital, an organization that was close to Robert's heart.
Though Robert may no longer be with us in body, his spirit will endure in the hearts of those who loved him. Rest in peace, Robert Rivas. You will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
