Carmen Victoria McCloskey, Age: 80
1943 – 2024
Carmen passed away with family members by her side on February 15, 2024, in Methodist Richardson Hospital just hours after being transferred from pneumonia treatment in the ICU to hospice care.
Born October 6, 1943, in Bella Vista, Callao and raised in Lima, Peru. She was the first child of Luis Fernandez Rey and Berthe Bezancon Mas. She attended the French school Colegio Franco Peruano in Lima thanks to her grandfather (“Tati”) Charles Bezancon, and graduated in 1961; then attended the University of Washington in Seattle where she also instructed Peace Corps volunteers in Spanish. She married John (Jack) McCloskey in St. Anthony’s Church in Kent, Washington on June 13, 1964. The growing family lived in Appleton, WI; Paramonga, Peru; and Mexico City, before settling in Richardson, TX, in 1976. After raising her family she was an instructor of machine knitting, studied horticulture at Richland College and worked in inventory research for Blockbuster in McKinney, design/sales for Roche BoBois – Dallas, and retail sales in all departments of Macy’s Galleria – Dallas.
She was preceded in death by a brother Luis, her parents, and sister Pilar; and is survived by her husband of nearly 60 years and their four sons, John (Cristina), Andy (Meredith), David & Paul (Yungsuk); her brother Yves Andre and sister Maria Luisa; four granddaughters & a great granddaughter.
Her great loves were cooking and knitting both by machine and by hand. The knitwear she produced are treasured by all who have worn them. Carmen was a very loving, devoted and dedicated mother and wife, and will be deeply missed by all whose lives she touched.
