Kathryn Adele (Laube) Scheiner

May 29, 1943 – December 13, 2023

Kathryn “Kathy” Scheiner passed away peacefully in Dallas, Texas, where she had moved to be closer to her family.  Kathy was born in Rockford, Illinois on May 29, 1943, and lived in Durand, Illinois until she graduated from Durand High School in 1961.  After high school she went on to the Professional Business Institute in Minneapolis, Minnesota for dental assisting and graduated in 1962.  From there she moved to Washington, D.C. looking for adventure, which she found when she met the love of her life, Edward “Ed” Charles Scheiner, who was in the U.S. Navy.  Together they travelled the United States and lived in many different places while Ed served in the Navy for 21 years and eventually became a college professor.  The places they lived together included Florida, Rhode Island, South Carolina, California, Hawaii, Virginia, New York, Michigan and Kentucky.  Ed and Kathy were married for 53 years before he passed away in 2017.

Kathy worked for many different dentists during her career, and eventually became an office manager for several different dentists due to her strong organizational skills.  She volunteered for many different organization in her life, but none were more meaningful or important to her than her service at Thomson-Hood Veterans Center in Wilmore, Kentucky where Ed resided the last several years of his life after contracting Parkinson’s.  She was a devoted wife and mother who worked hard to help support her family, and enjoyed many life-long friendships with people she met during her travels.

Kathy is survived by her sons Konrad (Margaret Herndon) Scheiner, Dallas, Texas, and Eric (Bethany) Scheiner, Chicago Illinois, and her grandchildren Sebastian, Leo, Tristan, Madison and Declan, as well as her brother, Charles Laube, Durand, Illinois, and brother-in-law, James (Linda) Scheiner, Sanger, California.  No services are planned at this time, but the family is planning to organize a memorial in the spring of 2024 in Chicago.  The family requests memorial donations in lieu of flowers to the Thomson-Hood Program Fund, 100 Veterans Drive, Wilmore, KY 40390.
