Robert E. “Bob” Stanton, 92, passed away on January 18, 2023 in McKinney, Texas. He was born on April 25, 1930 in Venice, Illinois to Robert R. and Beulah B. Stanton.
A loving husband, father and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Shirley. He is survived by his children; Sherri, Greg and Laura and grandchildren; Jacob, Everett and Zachary.
Bob was raised in St. Louis, Missouri and it was clear at an early age he had a musical gift.
He served his country in the United States Air Force from 1950 to 1954. After serving in the military, Bob attended North Texas State University where he earned a bachelor and master’s degree in music.
He spent his career teaching music at the University of Kansas, the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and the University of Portland. Bob also played with the Lawrence Chamber Players, the Kansas City Philharmonic Orchestra, the Starlight Theatre, the Dallas Summer Musicals, the Las Vegas Symphony, the Reno Symphony, the Oregon Symphony, the Mt. Hood Pops Orchestra, the Las Vegas Saxes, the Arizona Winds, the Golden Saxes, the Sun Cities Chamber Orchestra, the Sun City Concert Band and the Arizona Swing Kings Orchestra. He also played in hotel house bands at Harrah’s in Lake Tahoe and MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
Bob enjoyed playing golf, bowling, traveling, riding around in his golf car and spending time with his family. He will be deeply missed.
Bob’s remains will be scattered, along with his wife’s ashes, at a requested location during a private family memorial to celebrate his life at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Bob’s name to any military veterans’ charity organization.
