Pershing Berthelot Jr., Age:75
Pershing Berthelot Jr., 75, passed away at home with his family by his side on Monday evening, December 12, after 7 years of living with Frontotemporal Degeneration ("FTD"). FTD is a rare neurological disease that is in the same family with dementia, Parkinson's, and Alzheimer's disease.
Pershing was born in Lutcher, Louisiana, on October 25, 1947. He was preceded in death by his parents Pershing Sr. and Rita Berthelot. He is survived by his wife and best friend of 52 years, Dennise, and his two sons Benjamin David (wife Mindy) and Marc Steven (wife Mary Irene), as well as his "daughter" Hali Boyce (husband Matt). Pershing was a loving "Pops" & "Dude" to Shea Lauryn, Reese Turner, John Pershing, Lucy Irene, Emma Gray, and Brooks Russell. He is also survived by his three siblings, brothers Libeau and Ronnie, and sister Mary Rita.
After graduating from Nicholls State University in Thibodaux, Louisiana in 1969, Pershing enjoyed a successful 44 year career in the insurance industry before retiring in 2015. Pershing had a passion for American history, was an avid reader who always had a book in his hand, loved Texas Rangers baseball, chocolate, and science fiction movies; but his life truly revolved around his family. Pershing and Dennise spent time working together for 15 years as well as enjoying trips to casinos for fun. Pershing was a very loving and involved dad and grandfather as well. He spent every available moment with his two sons coaching and watching them play sports when they were younger and was always there for them when they needed wisdom and encouragement or just something as simple as projects around the house. He made every effort to attend his grandkids' soccer, baseball, and football games, as well as dance recitals. Pershing was infinitely selfless, and always present and supportive in the lives of his wife, children, and grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the wonderful caregivers who helped care for Pershing over the last 17 months, as well as the nurses, social worker & chaplain of Dignity Hospice.
A memorial mass will be held on Wednesday, January 4th, 2023, at 2:00 PM at St. Mark Catholic Church in Plano, TX.
