Freddie Glen Crowder, 77, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, May 8, 2022 surrounded by his family. Freddie was born on June 25, 1944 at his family home in Frisco, Texas to Thomas and Dorothy Crowder. He was the second of four brothers. Freddie was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Jimmie and Danny Crowder.
Freddie was never one to shy away from hard work to provide for his family. In his early career he was a welder for many years and eventually transitioned to an auto mechanic, often working double shifts. There wasn’t anything that Freddie couldn’t assemble, often tossing the instructions. Freddie loved his family and any phone call needing assistance he would be there. From car trouble, carpool requests, dog sitter he was always available when needed.
In his retirement years, Freddie found joy in being a crossing guard for the Frisco Independent School District at Sparks Elementary School from 2002-2018. He always referred to the students as “his kids” and enjoyed visiting with them. His personality came alive when he saw “his kids” cross at his corner. He often dressed up in costume/silly hats on holidays to bring a smile to “his kids” faces. They loved to see what he would be wearing next. Freddie knew “his kids” by name as well as the parents and was beloved by the entire Sparks Elementary school family.
In retirement Freddie was finally able to relax and start a new hobby. He joined the Collin County Bowhunters Association and was elected President for a time. He enjoyed the many bow shooting tournaments, winning several trophies and belt buckles. He cherished his prized belt buckle and wore it daily. Freddie is survived by his wife of 54 years Gloria (Hernandez) Crowder, his daughters and sons-in-law, Jessica (Crowder) Wilcox and Mark Wilcox, Glenda (Crowder) Slovacek and John Slovacek, granddaughter Lauren Lanell Slovacek, brother Richard Crowder and wife Rita Crowder and a host of beloved family and friends.
A private Celebration of Life for Freddie will be held on Sunday, June 26, 2p for close family and friends.
