Richard Kostel, Age:74

Richard Louis Kostel

February 2, 1948 - May 24, 2022

Richard “Rich” Kostel was born February 2, 1948, in Berwyn, Illinois to parents John and Violet Kostel. At 74 years old, he passed away on Tuesday, May 24, 2022, at Medical City Hospital in Plano, Texas. He was preceded in death by his wife Gloria “Gee” Kostel July 10, 2021. They shared 53 beautiful years of marriage together. He died, due to a broken heart, after losing the love of his life.

Rich was a Chicago policeman before he and his wife became Burger King franchisees. He and his wife moved to Texas in 1978 and opened their first restaurant. They grew their company successfully and eventually owned and operated thirteen Burger King restaurants over the span of 44 years.

Rich was an active and supportive leader for the Burger King franchise, serving many years as a member of the Board of Directors for National Franchise Association, Restaurant Services, Inc., Burger King/McLamore Scholarship Foundation and Dallas Region Franchise Association.

Rich and his wife traveled the world together, visiting everywhere they could have imagined. He was a wonderful brother, husband, father, and grandfather. Rich was always happy and even during difficult times he still managed to make others laugh. People always enjoyed being around him. When he walked into a room, people were always drawn to him. He was also the most generous man to his family, friends, colleagues, and employees, many of whom he considered as his extended family.

Rich was preceded in death by his parents and his wife. He is survived by his children Deanne Hinson, John Kostel and wife Tory, Amy Kostel and husband Matthew, grandchildren Madison Kostel, Morgan Hinson, Paige Teer, Mason Hinson, McKenzie Kostel, Elliot White, Charlie White, Ethan Novotny, and Rylie Novotny. Richard is also survived by his siblings, brother John Kostel and wife Flo, and sister Darlene Euler and husband John, and sisters-in-law Veronica Slager, Marcella Lipinski, brothers-in-law Ralph Murawski, and Keith Murawski and his wife Pam. He is also survived by his beloved dog, Annie.

At Rich’s request, there will be no funeral or memorial service. The immediate family will be having a private celebration of Richard’s life. As an expression of sympathy, memorials may be made to The American Diabetes Association, The Burger King Scholarship Foundation, or a charity of your choice.
