Mario Luis Rodriguez Lopez was called to heaven on February 25, 2022, at the age of 78. He passed away that morning at his home in Dallas, Texas surrounded by loved ones.

Mario was born December 23, 1943, in Caibarién, Las Villas, Cuba to Luis Rodriguez Portal and Elcira Lopez Jimenez. He completed his education at the Academia Marcelino Champagnat Colegio de Hermanos Maristas. He was also a member of the Cuban National Wrestling team.

In 1980 Mario came to the United States and shortly thereafter moved to San Antonio, a city he grew very fond of over the years. It was there he met his wife Nilda Esther Rosetti and together they had a daughter named Rosa Esther Rodriguez.

Mario was an animal and nature enthusiast who embraced the charms of the outdoors, especially the sea. Known for his gregarious personality, Mario touched the lives of those he met with his humor, charm, and kindness. An antiques, classic car, and comic book fan, Mario enjoyed attending estate sales and auctions. Coincidentally, Antiques Roadshow was one of his favorite TV shows, in addition to Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune. He’d often spend his free time studying the Bible and emphasized the importance of prayer and living a Godly life.

Mario is preceded in death by his parents Luis Rodriguez Portal and Elcira Lopez Jimenez, his sisters Dalila Rosa Rodriguez Guas, Mirtha Rodriguez Guas, Estela Rodriguez Guas, and Luis Rodriguez Lopez.

Mario is survived by his wife Nilda Esther Rosetti Rodriguez, his daughter Rosa Esther Rodriguez Rosetti, his sister Maria Teresa Rodriguez Lopez, his sister-in-law Angela Olivares Rodriguez, his nieces and nephews: Reymundo Luis Vazquez Rodriguez, Fausto Francisco Garcia Rodriguez, Liudmila Garcia Rodriguez, Cristina Esther Rodriguez Olivares, Mario Andres Rodriguez Olivares, Maria Aurora Cruz Rodriguez, Rene Reisa Sanchez Rodriguez, Milagros Sanchez Rodriguez, and Pablo Antonio Martinez Rodriguez. Mario is also survived by his grand nieces and nephews: Rocio Perez Garcia, Amanda Perez Garcia, Jonathan Luis Garcia Dulffo, and Elizabeth Vazquez Estrello.

He is also survived by his beloved pets, dogs Sara and Rocco, cats Nildo and Oscar “El Guero.”

A balloon release memorial was held on May 27, 2022, outside of the Chapel of the Incarnate Word at the University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio, Texas

Mario Luis Rodríguez López fue llamado al cielo el 25 de febrero de 2022, a la edad de 78 años. Falleció esa mañana en su casa en Dallas, Texas, rodeado de sus seres queridos.

Mario nació el 23 de diciembre de 1943 en Caibarién, Las Villas, Cuba, hijo de Luis Rodríguez Portal y Elcira López Jiménez. Completó su educación en la Academia Marcelino Champagnat Colegio de Hermanos Maristas. También fue miembro del equipo cubano de lucha libre.

En 1980 Mario llegó a los Estados Unidos y poco después se mudó a San Antonio, una ciudad a la que se encariñó mucho a lo largo de los años. Fue allí donde conoció a su esposa Nilda Esther Rosetti y juntos tuvieron una hija llamada Rosa Esther Rodríguez.

A Mario le gustaban los animales y la naturaleza, especialmente el mar. Conocido por su personalidad gregaria, Mario tocó las vidas de aquellos que conoció con su humor, encanto y amabilidad. Fanático de las antigüedades, los autos clásicos y los cómics, Mario disfrutaba asistiendo a ventas de antigüedades y subastas. Casualmente, Antiques Roadshow fue uno de sus programas de televisión favoritos, además de Jeopardy y Wheel of Fortune. A menudo pasaba su tiempo libre estudiando la Biblia y enfatizaba la importancia de la oración

A Mario también le sobreviven sus sobrinas nietas y sobrinos: Rocío Pérez García, Amanda Pérez García, Jonathan Luis García Dulffo y Elizabeth Vázquez Estrello.

También le sobreviven sus queridas mascotas, los perros Sara y Rocco, los gatos Nildo y Oscar "El Guero".
