James Roland Selby, age 69, passed away peacefully in his home on December 27, 2021.  He was born August 13, 1952 in Detroit, Michigan to the late William and Lois (McElroy) Selby.  

Jim was a Michigander transplanted to Texas, which quickly became his home. He spent his working career at Parkland Hospital retiring in 2020. 

Jim was a self-taught guitarist and loved playing for everyone. His guitar was never far from his side, even when he made his Amtrak trips back to Michigan to see family and friends. 

Family was important to Jim and those closest to him are going to miss his odd hour phone calls to “check in." He enjoyed watching sports and always looked forward to the yearly Ranger game with his family. 

He lived life to the fullest, never missing out on a good time. Jim was an uncomplicated man who will be remembered for being the life of the party and using every opportunity to make others laugh. He was a bright light to those surrounding him and he will be deeply missed.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his three brothers, Jack, Steve and Rick, infant sister, Susan, and his partner Ethel Holland. 

He is survived by his sister Deb (Mike) Loucks, nephews Donovan Selby, Bill Loucks and Aaron Selby, and nieces Samantha Selby and Mari Ann (Jordan) Moore.
