Michael Kevin McGarity, 65, passed away peacefully in his sleep in Dallas on July 29th after a courageous battle with brain cancer. He was predeceased by his parents, and is survived by his brothers, David and Danny, as well as nieces Hilary, Jennifer, Laura, Melissa and a nephew, Kevin.
Michael attended Mountain View Community College and the University of Texas at Austin, and was a certified Physical Therapy Assistant. He was much beloved by his family, his many friends and colleagues, and his patients.
Of his character, a couple of his friends perhaps said it best: If you had a problem that was difficult to deal with, Mike’s response would be “I’ll help in any way I can - and that includes legwork!” Another friend said of Michael: “You knew how he felt about things and even if he didn’t agree with you he was always willing to to talk about it and would try to understand.” Many friends noted his friendly smile and caring personality, as well as his professionalism in his work.
Michael had a fine sense of humor as well as the intelligence and curiosity to hold forth on a wide range of subjects, including philosophy, architecture, physiology, and Christianity. He was a serious Christian in the best sense, deeply studious in his religion and an embodiment of the Golden Rule in his daily life.
Michael requested that his ashes be scattered in the Gulf of Mexico, off the coast of Galveston, and that will be carried out at a future date. He was a good-hearted brother and friend. May he rest in peace from earthly cares and sorrows past, in the arms of his Lord.
