Charles Joseph Garvey, Age:90

Charles Joseph Garvey “Chuck” passed away peacefully at the Dallas Veterans Administration Medical Center’s Community Living Center on Tuesday, August 13, 2019, with his wife at his side. Chuck was born on June 13, 1929 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Charles Garvey and Ann Borell Garvey. He grew up in Philadelphia with his sister Charlotte. Chuck attended La Salle Preparatory High School and earned a swimming scholarship to attend La Salle University and graduated in 1951. After college, he served in the United States Army 101st Airborne Division during the Korean War Era. During this time he married Marcia Ann Geoghegan. In 1967, Chuck, Marcia and their four children moved from Olean, New York to Richardson, Texas. They joined Saint Mark the Evangelist Catholic Parish of Plano. He carried his faith with him always. A successful business entrepreneur, he established The C.J. Garvey Company in the year 1972. As a lifetime member of The Canyon Creek Country Club, Chuck enjoyed many rounds of golf and great times with friends. Chuck enjoyed boating and the water. As an avid swimmer he competed in the Veterans Senior Olympics. As a hobby later in life and lover of food, he attended chef school. Chuck absolutely loved his pet dogs and spent many hours volunteering at the Dallas VA hospital with his prized pup, Sonny. His true love was spending time with his wife, Marcia, married 64 years. Chuck is preceded in death by his parents Charles and Ann Garvey and great grandchildren Bridget, Liam and Vivian Garvey. He is survived by his loving wife Marcia, children, Gretchen Garvey, C.J. and Eileen Garvey, Ann Garvey, Lisa and Richard Sambrano. He is also survived by his adored grandchildren Brittany and Mark Barros, William and Sarah Garvey, Ricky Sambrano, Sam Garvey, Connor Garvey, John Garvey and great grandchildren Charlotte Garvey and Penelope Barros. He is also survived by his sister Charlotte “Shirley” Cunneff and many nieces and nephews. Services to be held on Friday August 23rd at 1:00 at Saint Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church, Plano, Texas, officiated by Reverend Timothy Gollob. The Garvey family would like to send their love and gratitude to the Dallas VA Hospital’s doctors, nurses, staff and fellow veterans for the exceptional care they provided.
