Charles Lee Caperton, Age:81

Passed away February 16, 2019 Progressive Supranuclear Palsy. Charles was born December 25, 1937 to A. H. “Cape” Caperton, a 1927 graduate of SMU, and Loraine Caperton, a graduate from Stevens College in 1931. Charles graduated from Highland Park High School in 1956. He was a graduate from SMU Law School in 1964.

 

Charles was a former Dallas County chief felony prosecutor, He held the preeminent/highest AV rating in a nationally recognized and published survey of members of the Bar and the U.S Judiciary for over 53 years. He was a Charter Founder of Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association, served on the Board of Directors for eight years and was a Fellow of the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Educational Institute. He was Criminal Law Editor of Texas Trial Lawyers Forum magazine; President of Dallas Trial Lawyers Association; Chairman of the Criminal Law Section of the Dallas Bar Association; and Board member of Dallas Criminal Defense Lawyers. He served 2 terms as State Committeeman for the American Trial Lawyers Association (The American Association for Justice); and served on the Board of Directors of Texas Trial Lawyers Association for 8 years. Charles also held memberships in the following organizations: Honor Roll of Champions by the Civil Justice Foundation; National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers; Penal Code Revision Committee of Texas; California Attorneys for Criminal Justice; and the Million Dollar Advocates Forum, awarded to attorneys who obtain verdicts/settlements in excess of a million dollars.

 

Charles dedicated his career to seeking justice in both civil as well as criminal law. He was the only attorney to be selected to the Board of Directors of both the Criminal Defense Lawyers and Plaintiff’s Personal Injury Lawyers (Texas Trial Lawyers) Associations, a unique honor.

 

 

His wife and Love of his Life, Marilyn, of 40 years, survives Charles. He is also survived by his daughter Kelly Walling and her husband Richard Walling, their children Andrew and Katherine of Flower Mound; his son Dr. Lee Caperton and his wife Dr. Kelly Caperton, their children Charles Lee Caperton III (Trey), Taylor, Brooke, and Justin of Albuquerque, NM; his sister Suellen and her husband Frank Nall of Horseshoe Bay; numerous wonderful nieces and nephews; and many friends.

 

Charles had a wonderful sense of humor, never an unfriendly word about anyone. He was deeply kind, caring, and most generous human beings. He will be loved and missed by all that knew him.

 

The family wants to thank his wonderful caregivers Angela and Janet. Because of their help Charles lived at home throughout his illness.
