Florence Brown, Age:91

Florence “Flo” Etta (Whitman) Brown, 91, passed away peacefully on March 25, 2024 in Dallas, Texas with her loving daughter by her side. Flo was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, neighbor, and friend, and she will be dearly missed.

Born October 3, 1932, in Detroit, Michigan, Flo grew up playing field hockey with her twin sister Frances “Fran” Ella. The twins were inseparable, mischievous, and absolutely adored by their chosen parents, Lottie and Leo Jones, and their childhood dog, Fluffy. Not much was known about their biological parents, but Flo assured everyone that she was, in fact, English royalty. She graduated from Redford High School in 1950 and shortly after married her husband of 68 years, Robert “Bob” Brown. The two spent time in Germany while Bob served in the military before settling down in West Bloomfield, Michigan where they raised their three children. They often golfed together at Washtenaw Country Club, where Flo earned the prestigious title of Women’s Club Champion. After spending most of their lives in cold Michigan, the two retired to Cape Coral, Florida in 1992.

Flo was a social butterfly, often playing golf with her Palmetto Pines buddies, enjoying a game of bridge with her girlfriends, and spending quality time with her family and friends in Michigan, Florida, and Texas. She never met a stranger, often chatting the ear off of sales associates, neighbors, and her children and grandchildren’s friends. Flo made sure she was vocal about her feelings towards her loved ones, always telling them how much they meant to her whenever they got together. When she wasn’t socializing, you would often find Flo reading a mystery novel, watching crime dramas, or enjoying a vodka with a lemon twist.

Flo is survived by her twin sister, Fran Putnam; her children Paul Brown (Mary), Ellen Preng (Mickey), and Eric Brown; her grandchildren Nicole Graney (Ryan), Mark Boutin, Elise Boutin, Makenzie Joy (Josh), Lindsay Brown, and Amy Brown; and her two great-grandchildren Caleb and Catherine Graney.

Flo is preceded in death by her husband, Robert “Bob” Brown (2020). A celebration of life will be held in Michigan this summer. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Flo’s name to Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption.

I have lots of good memories with Flo as I spent some time there working with my dad. She made me laugh and I enjoyed listening to her opinions on various topics. She was lucky to be loved by so many and I believe she is in a much better place. Until we meet again Flo, thank you for the memories!
