Nancy Lester, Age:77

Nancy Lester, born February 4, 1946, in New Orleans, Louisiana, passed away peacefully on September 19, 2023 in Allen, Texas. She was a woman with a warm, caring, and generous spirit, Nancy was marked by her bubbly personality, kind disposition, and witty charm. Her legacy is one of kindness and helpfulness, and she will be profoundly missed by her children, grandchildren, and all who had the privilege to know her.

She is survived by her children, Rebecca Joy Hicks and John Lester; her devoted son-in-law, James Hicks; and her grandchildren, Elijah Hicks, Caleb Hicks, Isabella Hicks, Malachi Hicks, and Evangeline Hicks. She also leaves behind her brothers, Ernie and Dusty Fotos; her sister-in-law, Gwen Fotos; and her cousin, Yvette Landry.

Nancy was a dedicated volunteer at Seniors and Law Enforcement Together in Mandeville, Louisiana, exhibiting her fondness for service and caring for others. She delighted in simple pleasures: the crunch of a salad, the sweet indulgence of King Cake, and a chilled Diet Coke with plenty of ice. She was often found in her garden covered in dirt and leaves planting and weeding.  An avid reader, she found joy in the works of Robert B. Parker, and her musical preferences leaned towards Michael McDonald, Patti Labelle, and Simply Red.

Nancy was a devoted mother and Nana. Her grandchildren were her greatest joy and she spent most of her time telling them stories, teaching them how to garden, and playing games with them. She was a guest at countless tea parties, patiently listening to every detail of every Pokémon character, engaged in many games of Angry Birds, and could often be found wearing a tiara and Mardi gras beads.

Nancy lived her life guided by the principles of treating others as you would like to be treated and loving your neighbors. This was a testament to her sweet and generous nature. Her departure leaves a significant void in our lives, but her life and legacy will continue to inspire us. Her effervescent spirit and unwavering kindness will always be remembered.

Dear Joy and family; It’s taken me awhile to write this. I think of Nancy and you everyday on my way home as I drive by the neighborhood. A few tears but mostly smiles and giggles now as I remember our visits. If everyone could have the goodness that she had it would be a perfect world. I loved her quirkiness and innocence, the simplicity to any issue that made it all ok, her love for all and happiness found in the simple things. I think I gained more from our visits than I realized at the time. I miss our Nancy. God took one of his angels home and I know they are loving her in heaven as we did here. We have been blessed to have known her. She is definitely one to remember!! Love to you Joy and your family. May god bless you always.
